Abstract

Gd/W multilayers containing thin Gd layers show enchanced magnetization. Electron microscopy of the microstructure and magnetic domains (as a function of temperature) shows magnetic domains lying out of the film plane, with strong contrast only between 200 and 270 K. The behaviour is compared with a pure Gd film.
