Abstract

In its seventeen years of existence the Materials Research Society (MRS) has witnessed tremendous advances in the research and development of, for example, ceramics, semiconductors and biomaterials. The basis and development of the Society as well as the newly founded International Materials Research Committee are described, and the MRS's interdisciplinary activities are presented.
