Abstract

The combination of biochemistry with physical concepts and instrumentation leading to new insights into how DNA is organized and processes inside cells are presented. Experiments on single molecules of DNA provided a mechanistic view of DNA-processing enzymes. The single molecule experiment emphasized thermal motion and the disorder that is inherent in large bio-polymers giving each enzyme-DNA interaction a unique timeframe and outcome.
