This report provides guidance to physicians by discussing their ethical responsibilities to protect genetic information. Specifically, the report considers the need for genetic privacy; diagnostic and therapeutic use of genetic information; the creation of databanks to store genetic information; the use of genetic information by the criminal justice system; and the circumstances in which physicians may ethically disclose genetic information to law enforcement authorities.
