Abstract
Abstract Some recent work is reviewed which gives an insight into the substantial reconstructions observed at noble metal surfaces, particularly of gold. It appears that the role of a catalyst promoter on silver may be to stabilise particular surface structures, not to contribute directly to the chemical reaction.
