Abstract

The influence of various cutting parameters and in particular of the cutting speed on the cutting process dynamics and hence their influence on the stability chart of machine tools is discussed in this paper. Subsequently a method of stability analysis is proposed considering these influences. By utilizing this method and experimental results on cutting published in recent decades, the paper corrects some assumptions of the traditional analysis which were in disagreement with practice. The proposed method brings the stability chart into closer agreement with available evidence and makes it more practical in use.
