Abstract

The trend of federal and private support of research as applied to anesthesiology increased from 1940 to 1975 and declined after 1975. Articles published in the journal Anesthesiology were supported primarily by private organizations in 1940 to 1955, funded equally by federal and private organizations in 1956 to 1960, and funded mostly by governmental agencies since 1961.
