Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) multi-slice EKG-triggered cardiac imaging is useful for the definition of cardiac and great vessel anatomy. Three-dimensional (3D) surface images of the heart are desirable to aid cardiac surgeons in preoperative planning for correction of congenital cardiac anomalies. We have adapted existing computer graphics and animation techniques to generate 3 D images of the beating heart and great vessels from contiguous 2D serial EKG-triggered data sets. The method is based on interactive image editing of these data sets and may be useful in the evaluation of cardiac morphologic abnormalities studied using MRI.
