Three-photon induced ultraviolet emissions from polymers

Abstract

Plasmas were produced from polymers like polystyrene when excited in air or nitrogen by a Nd: YAG 1064 nm intense pulsed laser, and the dominant emission peaks were in the ultraviolet ranging from about 384 to 389 nm, emitted from CN radicals in the plasmas. The intensity of these ultraviolet emission peaks was found to change approximately with the cube of the pumping laser power, suggesting a three-photon induced emission process.
