Abstract
Eating disorders and obesity are associated with marked impairment and reduced quality of life. Effective interventions have been identified and developed for youth and young adults. In this chapter, evidence-based treatment studies for bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and obesity are reviewed, and implications of the findings for treating children, adolescents, and young adults are discussed. A socioecological intervention using a contextual learning approach is described as optimal for promoting sustainable changes in eating-related attitudes and weight-related behaviors.
