Abstract

The H-T phase diagram of UPt3, with the vector nature of H kept in mind, severely constraints Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theories. For H|c, it cannot be explained by the popular two-component vector order parameter model. Among two independent like-parity order parameters, only the case where one behaves as an A and the other as a B representation of D6h (the point group of UPt3) is allowed. This model is studied with special emphasis on the possible two-order-parameter flux lattices and possible transitions between them, and shown to compare fairly with experiment.
