Abstract

Two mixed boundary-value problems for a semi-infinite layer, are studied. The first is that of a uniformly loaded layer resting on a smooth, rigid foundation and lifted at its end. The second problem concerns a semi-infinite layer with an end crack parallel to and midway between the two surfaces that is opened by end loads. Physical quantities of interest appropriate to both problems are calculated.
