Ultrahigh bandwidth, low Vπ photonic crystal BaTiO3 modulators

Abstract

BaTiO3 modulators with as low as 3.9 V Vπ and as high as 28 GHz bandwidth are reported. We demonstrate photonic crystal waveguides with a group index of 4 and predict > 50GHz bandwidth and < 5V operation in optimized photonic crystal modulators.
