Abstract

Analytical and experimental methods developed by workers in the general area of applied mechanics play an important role in QNDE methods that use elastic waves as the penetrating radiation to probe for inhomogeneities in solid bodies. This paper discusses some recent results on scattering of elastic waves by cracks, and it explores the application of these results to crack characterization.
