Abstract

This paper presents a conceptually new approach to improving the roundness generating capability of cylindrical grinding machines. Traditional methods called for the manufacture of ultra-high precision spindle and bearings whereas the proposed method is based on contemporary advances in mathematical modelling techniques, computer, sensor and actuator technology and holds the promise of bringing high precision into the realm of economical manufacture. The new approach is based on the precise measurement, on the analysis, on-line mathematical modelling and finally on forecasting and compensation.
