Abstract
The author explains how S. Grossberg's adaptive resonance theory (ART) can be used to develop a self-organized, stable category structure for musical patterns of arbitrary complexity. H reports on a program entitled L'ART pur l'art (ART for art's sake), which has been taught some early works of Mozart.
