Abstract

Shaker table experiments of the damping of waves over mud are presented. The small-scale experimental work was performed using a rectangular tank that was horizontally excited to initiate wave motion. Damping of water waves generated by the excitation, with and without presence of mud, was studied for a range of exciting frequencies and excitation amplitudes. Similar tests were performed by first stirring the mud up into the water column to investigate effects of lutocline depth on damping of water waves.
