Wave Propagation in Lamellar Composite Materials

An exact dispersion relation is derived for time harmonic waves propagating in the direction of the layering in a lamellar composite. For high values of the ratio of the shear moduli, the dispersion curves depart at very small dimensionless wavenumbers from the limiting phase velocities for “long waves.”.
