Abstract

The reliable and nondestructive determination of early-age concrete properties is a critical factor for success and progress of many construction projects. A new method for characterizing cement-based materials is proposed in this paper. The technique is based on the measurement of the reflection coefficient (or reflection loss) of high frequency shear waves at an interface between a steel plate and e. g. concrete. The presented investigations have shown that the wave reflection method has the ability to qualitatively and quantitatively describe the setting and hardening process of concrete. On a first successful field trial is also reported.
